The Library underwent a major renovation in the summer months of 2016. Our used book storage room was converted into an elevator shaft, allowing all users of the Library access to our lower level. As a consequence, we can no longer accept book donations and book sales have been discontinued until further notice.

Here is a list of Paris-based book donation centers:

San Francisco Book Company – 17 rue Monsieur le Prince, 75006
Berkeley Book of Paris – 8 rue Casimir-Delavigne, 75006
Abbey Bookshop – 29 rue de la Parcheminerie, 75005
SOS Help
Les Orphelins d’Auteuil – 40 rue de la Fontaine, 75016
Recyc’livres – 28 rue de Trévise, 75009
Secours Populaire – Union Nationale, 9-11 rue Froissart, 75003
l’Association bibliothèque sans frontières – 69 rue Armand Carrel, 75019
l’Association OXFAM France – 8 rue Saint Ambroise, 75011

The Library is partnered with Better World Books, a socially responsible online bookseller. Better World Books picks up all the items the Library formerly would put into its used book sale, and divides the proceeds from their eventual sale among international literacy causes, operating costs, and the donor library.

The Library also participates in Better World Books’ Affiliate Programme, If you plan to purchase a used book online, we invite you to click from our website to the Better World Books Bookstore. By using the link on our website, a percentage of the sale will be earmarked for the Library. Money earned through our partnership goes towards renewing our own collection with brand-new books.

Book Bags

bookbagsquareThe Library’s popular tote bags now come in six colors, including black, forest green, navy blue, cherry red, natural, and gray. These totes, American-made in durable cotton with shoulder-length straps, are a way to carry your books home and to let everyone else know how lucky you are to frequent the American Library. Tote bags are available at the front desk — or by mail upon request— for €12 ($16) each plus postage.

Stop by the Library and pick one up as a gift for either yourself or a book lover you may know. They’re useful for a trip to the Library or as an alternative to plastic bags.
